The number of complaints against Ukrainian law-enforcement agencies during the third quarter of 2017 has risen significantly, because business no longer is afraid to complain, Business Ombudsman Algirdas Semeta has said.

"The number of complaints during the last quarter against Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), the National Police of Ukraine has risen significantly during the last quarter. The number of complaints against Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office has stayed the same, compared to those lodged during the second quarter. The reasons are various, but one of them is that business now believes that it is able to get justice," he said during an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Semeta said entrepreneurs previously were afraid that complaining would result in crackdowns against them.

"But now they have seen the result of our involvement and begun to contact us more often," the businessman said. He added that Ukraine's Fiscal Service remains the leader in the number of complaints, with the number rising significantly because of problems with registering tax filings.

"If we exclude this factor, the amount of complains against tax authorities during the third quarter has dropped," he said.
