Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Dalia Grybauskaite is the first Lithuanian president to visit Indonesia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 24 years ago, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

During the joint conference following a meeting with President Grybauskaite at the Merdeka Palace, Wednesday, President Jokowi expressed hope that this historic momentum would be beneficial to enhance bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Lithuania.

The bilateral meeting has resulted in the inking of two cooperation agreements in the areas of energy and information technology for the transportation sector.

"I am pleased to witness the signing of two cooperation agreements in the fields of renewable energy and energy conservation as well as transportation," Jokowi noted.

Cooperation in the energy sector covers the development of biomass, energy from waste and gas, while cooperation in the area of information technology is expected to be useful for the land transportation and aviation sectors.

"We also agreed to increase cooperation in trade and investment, as we are together encouraging the completion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiation," the Indonesian president noted.

Indonesia has voiced concern over the black campaign and discriminative action against the countrys palm products in Europe.

Hence, President Jokowi has urged his Lithuanian counterpart to lend support to Indonesian palm products to be treated fairly.

Responding to the request, President Grybauskaite expressed Lithuanias readiness to support the negotiations on CEPA and the free-visa policy for EU member states as such cooperation will help to generate a revenue of 2.5 billion euros.

In addition to cooperation in the energy and transportation sectors, Lithuania is also looking to intensify cooperation in the tourism sector.

The number of Lithuanian tourists visiting Indonesia during the period between 2013 and 2016 had significantly increased to 183 percent.

Moreover, President Grybauskaite expressed hope that her visit to the archipelago would serve as a precursor to increasing cooperation between both countries in the agriculture sector based on the fact that Lithuania has productive land.
