The Planning Authority has announced that the highly successful Irrestawra Darek grant scheme, first launched last year, has reopened for a second term.

The scheme this year, includes an allocation of funds specifically for properties of registered voluntary organisations that are located within Urban Conservation Areas (UCAs).

It is also open for privately owned residential properties located within Urban Conservation Areas (UCAs)who wish to carry out restoration and maintenance works on the facade of their old property.

The Authority advised that private owners of such residences may apply for a grant of 70% of the works, up to a maximum of €10,000. The same applies for properties of registered voluntary organisations within UCAs.

Persons with special needs are being given a special concession to include works within the building interior resulting in improved accessibility, the PA said.

Owners of Grade 1 and Grade 2 scheduled buildings under this scheme, may also apply for a rebate on 70% of eligible costs of restoration and conservation works.

These works may be carried out on the facade, interior and garden architecture of the property. Grade 1 buildings can benefit from up to a maximum of €100,000, whereas Grade 2 buildings up to a maximum of €50,000, the Authority said.

Up by a further €2 million from last year, the Authority said that this €10 million grant scheme will assist in the regeneration of Malta’s village core areas whilst promote investment in the restoration, conservation and maintenance of Malta’s built heritage.

The largest amount of the scheme, that of €7.5 million is being allocated for privately owned residential properties located within UCAs and Grade 1 and Grade 2 scheduled buildings, €1 million is being secured for persons with special needs, a further €1 million is being reserved for senior citizens (65+) and €500,000 for properties of registered voluntary organisations within UCAs.

The scheme is effective from the 2nd of April, and is available on a first come first served basis, closing on the 28th of June.

The Authority explained that works have to commence after the 1st of April 2018 have to be concluded within 2 years. Fiscal receipts have to be presented and planning permission needs to be sought prior to works.

To facilitate the processing of the submissions, request for funding under this scheme are to be made by Periti through the Authority’s online e-Application system.

The funds for this scheme are being made available by the Authority from the fees it generates from the regularisation process application. .
