Selected foodstuffs will be subjected to lower value added tax. The 10-percent VAT will apply on some dairy products, fruits and vegetables, honey or bread.
The parliament voted to lower the VAT on selected products as proposed by the junior coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) last week. The items on the list are not as originally proposed by the SNS MP Eva Antošová. The selection of the foodstuffs was to make sure it will cost the state budget not more than €65 million.
“Within the coalition agreement, we made a compromise and picked the most important food for us and mainly the healthy kind because we are convinced that health should come first,” Antošová said, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
