Report says EU to vaccinate majority by end of June

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The majority of European Union nations will have enough Covid vaccinations to inoculate over 55 percent of their populations by the end of June, Bloomberg news reported, citing documents they obtained.

Bloomberg reported that Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands will have enough doses to vaccinate more than 55% of their populations by the end of June, according to a memo issued by the European Commission.

Further, the EU hopes that Germany and France can inoculate the majority of their populations by the summer. The Eastern member states are expected to progress more slowly.

The EU's vaccination campaign has been characterized by delays, mixed messages and political fighting.

The commission reportedly expects deliveries of Covid vaccines to reach some 360 million doses this quarter, as opposed to 100 million doses delivered in the first three months of this year.

The document, dated April 1, details the exact number of doses that will be available to each government by the end of June.

The memo noted that some countries will lag behind, including Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria.

On the other hand, Denmark and Malta are expected to reach their immunity threshold much earlier.
