Hop into Hawarden Saturday, April 19, for a fun-filled chamber event. A Bunny Bash is being planned by the chamber retail community events committee and chamber businesses that chamber director Julie Coyle said you won’t want to miss.

“I always get excited when we host events for children and families,” Coyle said. “I can’t wait to watch the faces of the kids when they see our adorable Easter bunny.”

Coyle said the committee decided to focus on planning an event over Easter weekend because they felt many families will already be together celebrating. Coyle said a primary goal of the chamber is to keep families in town and to showcase all the wonderful things Hawarden has to offer including the chamber businesses.

During the 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Bunny Bash, plan to play bunny ring toss in Suede who will also have Made in the Midwest vendor join them in their store.

Stop and make an Easter flower craft and shop Terra Rose Pottery at 905 Arrangements. There’s also a chance take a photo with the Easter bunny at Antojitos Pena. You can draw with sidewalk chalk outside of Rivers Edge Bank.

There’s free game of bowling 11 a.m.-1 p.m. courtesy of Peoples Bank at Sportsmans Lanes. West Sioux P.I.E. will host bingo 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Rola’s Rentals.

Play downtown bingo co-sponsored by Hawarden Public Library and Hawarden Regional Healthcare. Decorate an Easter bonnet at Antojitos Pena hosted by Hawarden Area Arts Council. Links Permanent Jewelry will be inside Style and Grace Salon.

Then stop by and pet the animals at an Easter style petting zoo outside La Hispana Grocery.

Be sure to see the back page of this paper for a coloring contest page. Turn it back in to be judged, co-sponsored by Hawarden Independent/Ireton Examiner and Rivers Edge Bank.

Have fun hunting Easter eggs in the aisles of Sunshine Foods. Shop at TJ’s Jams & Jellies booth and shop the Protein Ballz vendor outside Rola’s Rentals.

At 2 p.m. Central Cafe will be hosting cookie decorating.

Coyle is excited to see everyone out shopping and enjoying Hawarden chamber businesses.

“We wanted to focus more on bringing business to our downtown community,” Coyle said. “Excitement from everyone. Families are excited to participate, businesses are excited to host. We keep adding more and more events each day from people contacting us and asking to be involved.”

In the past 10 months, Hawarden chamber has added 22 members and Coyle attributes that uptick to the enthusiasm and commitment being seen in promoting Hawarden.

“Through our events and initiatives, we’re showcasing everything that makes this place special, and people are excited to be a part of it” Coyle said. “Not only does it provide foot traffic into their business, but it is also a great promotion and visibility for their business. Our Facebook page has gained an enormous viewership. Our most popular posts have 10,000 views, and by participating their business and organizations name is shared all around the area.”

Any business, nonprofit organization, family or individual can join the chamber according to Coyle. Contact Coyle directly at 712-551-7730 or by email at chamber@cityofhawarden.com for more information.
