State Secretary Štucin attends the Khartoum Process 2nd Ministerial Conference

SLOVENIA, April 9 - Slovenia has been an active member of the Khartoum Process. On 5 and 6 November 2024, Slovenia and Egypt organised an expert workshop in Luxor to address the nexus between climate change and displacement in conflict-affected areas. In his intervention today, State Secretary Štucin advocated for a comprehensive approach to mobility in order to facilitate safe, orderly and regular migration. If well managed, migration can contribute to sustainable development and must be an integral part of climate change adaptation efforts. In this context, the State Secretary underscored the need to continue our fight against irregular migration and human trafficking.

The Cairo Ministerial Conference brought together ministers and deputy ministers from European and African countries. They adopted the Cairo Ministerial Declaration and a 10-year Action Plan for its implementation.

The Khartoum Process is a regional platform for strengthening political cooperation on migration and mobility among countries on the migration route between the Horn of Africa and the European Union. It is one of the four EU regional processes for cooperation on migration, displacement and development, promoting a comprehensive approach to migration management.
